Only Australian Member of the International Society of Orthopaedic Centres
Orthopaedic services are considered one of the focal services of the Mater Hospital and it is the only Australian Hospital to be accepted into the International Society of Orthopaedic Centres.
Approximately 9,000 orthopaedic procedures were conducted in the past year (including over 2,000 joint replacement procedures), with 45 accredited Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a dedicated core number of staff who conduct a significant amount of research (in 2013, 23 articles were published in Peer Review Journals). The Mater is committed to basic and clinical research and functions as an academic centre with a permanent Orthopaedic Registrar and international Orthopaedic Fellows in advanced training. The Mater also educates medical students in orthopaedics and general surgery.
